eBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY), a global commerce leader that links millions of buyers and sellers worldwide, announced today that it has completed its purchase of TCGplayer, a recognized marketplace for collectible card game aficionados, for a total transaction value of up to $295 million.

This acquisition compliments eBay’s emphasis category approach and expands its offers to provide aficionados even more options. eBay and TCGplayer will improve the overall collecting experience for customers by combining eBay’s 26 years of knowledge and commitment to the trading card category with TCGplayer’s large ecommerce platform and strategic omnichannel capabilities such as order fulfillment and cart optimization.

TCGplayer will continue to operate independently as one of the leading online trading card game markets. TCGplayer now employs over 600 people and serves millions of hobbyist consumers as well as tens of thousands of online vendors and brick-and-mortar stores via the TCGplayer Marketplace and its Authentication Center.

Over the last two years, eBay has released substantial items and enhancements that are vital for trading card and collectibles consumers and sellers. With recent launches such as eBay vault, the company is delivering a more seamless experience, providing benefits such as instant transfer, authentication, insurance, affordable shipping, and a tax-free storage location, and providing collectors with peace of mind and unprecedented control over their assets.
