Informatica, a provider of enterprise data management tools, is acquiring Privitar, a UK-based startup specializing in data access controls. The acquisition will enhance Informatica’s intelligent data management cloud offering and strengthen its position in the enterprise data management space. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Privitar had previously raised over $150 million in funding.

Privitar focuses on privacy in big data analytics, providing tools to protect sensitive or identifiable information when using non-anonymized data. Over time, the company expanded its services to provide data management access for organizations. As businesses seek more cost-effective ways to accelerate their data and IT strategies, consolidation in the enterprise IT market has become a prevalent trend.

Informatica’s EVP and Chief Product Officer, Jitesh Ghai, highlighted the increasing fragmentation in data management across various platforms and emphasized the need for integrated solutions. The acquisition aligns with Informatica’s strategy of seeking compelling technology and best-of-breed solutions in the data and analytics space. Ghai also indicated that Informatica may pursue additional acquisitions in the future.
