First Mode, a Seattle-based clean energy and global carbon reduction startup recently raised a $1.2 billion venture series funding round- according to Crunchbase.
First Mode, which was founded in 2018, focuses on clean energy for heavy industry. Given Voorhees’ background as a NASA mechanical engineer, the company began with a focus on deep space exploration. However, First Mode has been working with Anglo American for more than four years, and Voorhees stated in December that the company is putting its space efforts on hold for the time being.
First Mode is a global carbon reduction company that creates innovative, clean energy solutions for heavy industry’s most difficult problems.

First Mode creates the seemingly impossible in order to enable a sustainable future for everyone, everywhere. They create and deliver new products and systems that are critical for zero-emission mobility, heavy industry decarbonization, and green energy production and distribution.

First Mode has approximately 60,000 square feet of office space in Sodo and more than 30,000 square feet in Pioneer Square near Lumen Field. In addition, the company has a presence in Perth, Australia.
