Metaplane Secures $13.8M Series A Led by Felicis Amidst Explosive Growth

by

Metaplane, the premier data observability platform for data teams, has announced the successful closure of its $13.8 million Series A funding round, spearheaded by Felicis. This milestone comes hot on the heels of a remarkable 2023 marked by substantial revenue growth, accelerated customer acquisition, and rapid product innovation.

With this latest infusion of capital, Metaplane’s total funding now stands at $22.2 million, combining its Seed round, which was raised less than a year ago, with leading investors like Khosla Ventures, Flybridge, and Y Combinator.

“We are incredibly proud of what Metaplane accomplished in 2023,” stated Kevin Hu, CEO and co-founder of Metaplane. “Data forms the bedrock of modern businesses, and our mission is to provide insights, rapid resolution times, and peace of mind to our customers. With this funding, we aim to enhance our data observability platform to meet the evolving needs of data engineers, focusing on new automations, deeper analytics, and seamless integration into data workflows.”

Metaplane’s user base surged over the past year, with customers conducting over 500 million data quality checks on more than 40 million data assets and over 30 million data lineage connections as of January 2024. The platform’s users tripled the number of monitors created while detecting and resolving over 80,000 incidents.

Founded in 2019 by Kevin Hu, Guru Mahendran, and Peter Casinelli, Metaplane was established to provide instant visibility into data quality issues that impact businesses negatively. The complexity of modern data pipelines, with numerous data sources, intricate business logic, and diverse stakeholders, makes testing, monitoring, and issue resolution a daunting task for any team or department. Metaplane’s data observability empowers data engineers with machine learning-based monitoring to identify issues in real-time.

“Metaplane has revolutionized the way we monitor our operational data,” remarked Evan Cover, Director of BI Engineering and Governance at Klaviyo. “In the past, data teams were reactive, fixing issues only after they caused problems. Metaplane puts us in control, enabling proactive monitoring and issue resolution. Within a week of deploying Metaplane, we were able to catch data issues more quickly, fostering greater trust across the company.”

Javier Soltero, Senior Venture Partner at Felicis and SVP & GM of Canva Enterprise, expressed confidence in Metaplane’s future, emphasizing the company’s strong customer satisfaction and product quality as fundamental drivers of growth and success.
