by

Bob Biesterfeld, former CEO of C.H. Robinson

Meta has acquired Luxexcel, a smart eyewear firm situated in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

Meta will probably be able to make prescription AR glasses as a result of the acquisition.

Luxexcel, founded in 2009, is a technology provider for 3D printed prescription lenses. The firm intends to expedite the adoption of consumer smart eyewear by satisfying the prescription lens demands of more than 75% of the adult world population. This is made possible by its proprietary 3D printing production platform. It is used by original equipment and device makers to design and construct on-demand custom, lightweight, smart prescription eyewear in a trendy form factor suitable for the mass market. In addition, the corporation has branches in Belgium and the United States.
