OPTIX raises $15 million funding to date to solve the bottleneck of XR optics technology

by

XR technology startup OPTIX has successfully closed its oversubscribed Pre-A funding round, led by Primavera Venture Partners, with participation from existing investor Lanchi Ventures. This latest round brings OPTIX’s total equity raised to an impressive US$15 million, marking its third funding round in less than two years since its establishment in August 2022. OPTIX’s Angel round was previously led by Lanchi Ventures with involvement from Vlight Capital.

Specializing in cutting-edge optics technology, OPTIX is dedicated to providing advanced solutions for the next generation of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) products. The company focuses on developing VR Pancake in-house design and fabrication, as well as AR waveguide technologies such as Geometric Waveguide, SRG Waveguide, and VHG Waveguide.

Gary Yan, Founder and CEO of OPTIX, emphasized the crucial role optics play in XR hardware and the challenges of integrating them with other subsystems while ensuring mass production scalability. He expressed OPTIX’s commitment to delivering the ultimate optical experience and collaborating with world-leading customers and industry partners to create outstanding AR and VR products.

The recent funding follows a period of rapid growth for OPTIX, during which the company established its laboratory and manufacturing process and focused on key optics technologies for both AR and VR. Notably, OPTIX unveiled its VR Pancake optical module shortly after Apple’s release of its Vision Pro headset in June 2023, showcasing impressive resolution and field-of-view capabilities. The company plans to integrate gaze tracking, foveated rendering, and PB Lens into the pancake module and launch an AR waveguide module in Q3 2024.

Both Primavera Venture Partners and Lanchi Ventures expressed excitement about backing OPTIX, highlighting its unique technical advantage, specialization, and industry-leading optical performance. They emphasized OPTIX’s potential to overcome bottlenecks in optical solutions and drive transformation in everyday life through XR technology.
