CITGO Raises More Than $2.9 Million for Muscular Dystrophy Association

by

CITGO Petroleum Corporation has successfully concluded its annual fundraising campaign, raising over $2.9 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The funds will be utilized to accelerate research, enhance multidisciplinary care, and advocate for inclusion, access, and equity for those affected by neuromuscular diseases, including muscular dystrophy and ALS.

CITGO achieved this milestone through various events, including golf tournaments in Houston, Lake Charles (Louisiana), and Corpus Christi (Texas), setting new fundraising records. Additional events in Lemont, Illinois, included a golf tournament and bowling event, contributing to the overall success of the campaign.

The funds raised by CITGO over the years have supported MDA’s critical mission, including research funding, the Care Center Network, Resource Center, Gene Therapy Support Network, MDA Summer Camp, and other programs aimed at extending the quality and length of life for people in the MDA community.

Since 1986, CITGO has raised more than $265 million for MDA. This year’s campaign has played a significant role in bringing six newly approved treatments for neuromuscular diseases to the market, offering hope to families affected by conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, ALS, Pompe disease, Friedreich’s ataxia, and myasthenia gravis. CITGO’s support has contributed to MDA’s efforts to empower families and advance research and care in the neuromuscular community.
