Built In, a local job board and information site for the tech industry, lay off more than 50 people, or around 25% of its workforce.
Multiple people familiar with the layoffs confirmed the layoffs via social media posts by laid-off employees.
Built In, which began in 2011 as an online community and information hub for the Chicago tech industry, has evolved into an online job board that operates in approximately 100 cities. In 2019, the company received $22 million and swiftly expanded into new areas, more than doubling its personnel in the previous two years. This year, the company was placed 78th in Crain’s Best Places to Work.
A drop in tech equities earlier this year soon spread to startups and venture-backed firms, many of which have paused hiring to conserve cash. Built In is the latest in a long line of Chicago tech layoffs, ranging from startups to publicly traded corporations.
