Altair Leads Seed Funding for Xscape Photonics with $10 Million Investment

by

Altair, a global leader in computational science and artificial intelligence (AI), has invested $10 million in Xscape Photonics, a start-up that has developed patented photonic chip technology for ultrahigh-bandwidth connections inside data centers and high-performance computing (HPC) systems.

Until now, computing relied on a traditional electronic way to transporting enormous amounts of data from chip to chip, which takes up a lot of space and power and generates a lot of heat, causing performance issues as HPC applications increase exponentially, particularly in data science and AI.

Xscape has created a platform that integrates diverse computing elements in an environmentally sustainable manner while providing the maximum possible performance by utilizing breakthrough photonics technology.

This unique technology use photonics to substantially cut power consumption and heat output while increasing communication speed and power, all to support the massive increase of data sent from chip to chip, node to node, and beyond.

Photonics has great promise since high-speed data transport is particularly important for software that aids simulation, HPC, AI, and machine learning. More simulation and compute capacity will be required in the future to enable more analysis, more sustainable production, lower prices, better goods, and faster time-to-market. Adopting photonics will enable organizations across all industries, including hardware, software, and product development firms, to accelerate their rate of innovation.
