Intel Corporation has informed state and local officials that it intends to lay off approximately 340 employees at its Folsom campus.

WARN Act notices were sent to the state’s Employment Development Department, Folsom’s mayor, and other officials. The WARN Act requires employers to give workers and state officials 60 days’ notice of mass layoffs.

“These are difficult decisions, and we are committed to treating impacted employees with dignity and respect,” Intel said in a statement to KCRA 3.

The company cited a “challenging macroeconomic environment” and stated that it is “focused on identifying cost savings and efficiency gains through multiple initiatives, including some business and function-specific workforce reductions across the company.”

On December 2, the company sent a WARN Act to notice stating that it planned to lay off approximately 111 workers at its 1900 Prairie City Drive facility beginning in January.

In an update on Jan. 11, the company said it had increased that number to 176, but that some employees may find other jobs at Intel. Intel stated that all employees had been given 60 days’ notice.

On January 13, Intel announced another round of layoffs affecting 167 employees, which are “expected to be permanent.”

“All impacted employees are being notified of separation with at least 60 days’ notice, with the first separations presently scheduled to occur during a 14-day period commencing on March 15, 2023,” the notice said. “Additional separations are expected after the 30-day period beginning March 15, 2023.”
