Ubiquity, a deep tech innovator in photonic disinfection, has emerged from stealth with $7.5 million in seed funding. The round, led by Emerald Development Managers, with contributions from AgFunder and MANN+HUMMEL, will propel Uviquity’s mission to revolutionize pathogen control with safe, scalable, and chemical-free far-UVC technology.
Uviquity’s breakthrough solid-state far-UVC (200-230 nm) semiconductor light sources enable continuous, human-safe disinfection for air, food, and water. The funding will accelerate development of its proprietary photonic integrated circuit, which uses blue laser light and frequency-doubling waveguides to create a compact, single-chip far-UVC solution. This technology, small enough to fit on a fingertip, integrates seamlessly into standard photonic packages for diverse applications.
“Far-UVC is a game-changer for safe, effective disinfection, and our semiconductor platform makes it practical and scalable,” said Scott Burroughs, CEO and co-founder of Uviquity. “This investment empowers us to deliver chemical-free solutions for cleaner air, safer food, and purer water worldwide.”
Unlike traditional UV-C systems, far-UVC is safe for human exposure while neutralizing all known pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Uviquity’s chip-based approach overcomes the limitations of bulky gas-discharge lamps, offering a compact, energy-efficient, and reliable alternative that integrates into lighting systems, air purifiers, food processing equipment, agricultural systems, water purifiers, and consumer devices.
Uviquity’s technology unlocks a range of high-impact use cases:
- Air Disinfection: Invisible, always-on protection against airborne pathogens in public and private spaces.
- Sustainable Agriculture: Pesticide-free crop protection for healthier, eco-friendly farming.
- Water Purification: Chemical-free, scalable solutions for clean water without harmful byproducts.
“Uviquity’s innovative approach aligns with our mission to back transformative deep tech solutions,” said Cy Schroeder of Emerald Development Managers. “Their far-UVC platform has the potential to redefine global disinfection standards, and we’re excited to support their journey.”
With the new funding, Uviquity will advance its R&D, scale production, and forge partnerships to bring its technology to market, setting a new benchmark for safe and sustainable pathogen control.
