Vedder Transportation Group Joins Forces with TFI International in a Strategic Move

The latest news from this dynamic sector comes from TFI International, a leading player in the industry. The Montreal-based company has recently made headlines by acquiring Vedder Transportation Group, a well-established tanker carrier based in British Columbia.

While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, this strategic acquisition represents a significant step forward for both companies. Vedder Transportation Group, with its strong foothold in Western Canada, has been a pioneer in the transportation of food-grade liquids and dry-bulk commodities. Their impressive fleet includes over 155 tractors, nearly 300 trailing units, and a range of specialized facilities. Notably, they boast a food grade wash rack, railcar transloading, warehousing capabilities, as well as maintenance and repair facilities.

This acquisition is set to augment TFI International’s already robust tank truck network, enhancing its ability to provide comprehensive food grade tank truck transportation services across the breadth of Canada. For TFI, this move signifies its continued commitment to strategic expansion and diversification within the transportation and logistics sector.

Fred Zweep, President of Vedder Transportation Group, and his experienced team are poised to join TFI’s Specialized Truckload business segment. This collaborative effort is expected to further strengthen TFI’s presence in Western Canada, an area where Vedder has been operating since its inception in 1956.

Alain Bédard, Chairman, President, and CEO of TFI International, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, noting that it would significantly expand their tank truck network in Western Canada. He highlighted Vedder Transportation Group’s impressive track record in providing specialized services in this region, which is expected to complement TFI’s existing operations seamlessly.

Bédard emphasized that with this acquisition, TFI International is positioning itself as the premier Canadian coast-to-coast provider of food grade tank truck transportation services. The company is now well-equipped to serve a wide range of industries, including the transportation of food-grade liquids and dry-bulk commodities.

Strategic moves like this acquisition are critical for growth and adaptation to market demands. As TFI International continues to expand its portfolio and strengthen its network, it remains a key player in shaping the future of the industry.
