Nexon America has laid off a “small number” of employees following a restructuring plan announced earlier this month. The company did not disclose the exact number of affected staff members.
In a statement to Game Developer, Nexon America clarified that the reorganization includes the elimination of some roles, but assured that severance packages will be provided to those leaving. At the same time, Nexon is hiring for new positions in its development team, including roles for engineers and designers.
On September 3, Nexon’s president and CEO, Junghun Lee, along with CFO Shiro Uemura, unveiled a mid-term growth strategy for the company. This plan includes the formation of the Western Development Group based in Los Angeles, led by Hanbyeol Oh. The group is a key part of Nexon’s “hyperlocalization” initiative, designed to tailor games to local audiences in markets like North America and Europe.
“We are centralizing our organizational structure around an IP growth initiative that will drive the expansion of our existing intellectual property and develop new blockbuster titles,” said Lee.
