Modicus Prime, an Austin, TX-based computer vision software provider that automates biologics image analysis, has raised $3.5 million in Seed funding. The round was led by Silverton Partners, with participation from Alumni Ventures and others. As part of the financing round, Silverton Partners’ Roger Chen will join the company’s board of directors.

Modicus Prime, led by CEO Taylor Chartier, intends to use the funds to further service their international pharmaceutical customers with additional customer support. The company provides computer vision software designed to automate biologics image analysis, addressing cost, legal, and waste liabilities from product quality failures. Their cloud software, mpVision, scales GxP-compatible AI models for real-time quality control in commercial manufacturing and can be integrated into any camera-equipped device, from microscopes to microflow imaging devices.

The mpVision software ensures the identity, efficacy, and purity of drug products, significantly reducing costs and waste from failed batches. Modicus Prime, a resident of Johnson & Johnson JLABS at the Texas Medical Center, is venture-backed and has strategic partnerships with organizations including Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (DOE), Dotmatics, and eLabNext (Eppendorf).

Current implementation areas for Modicus Prime’s software include biologics, cell and gene therapies, and vaccines for pharmaceutical manufacturing, CMOs, and CDMOs.
