Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has initiated another round of layoffs, affecting employees across several key teams, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Reality Labs. This move comes as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reallocate resources and align with its long-term strategic goals.
Meta confirmed the job cuts to Euronews Next, stating that some teams are being moved to different locations or roles. “In situations like this when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees,” the company said. However, it did not disclose whether jobs in Europe would be affected.
Meta layoffs follow earlier restructuring efforts that divided Meta’s Reality Labs into Wearables and Metaverse divisions. This year’s job cuts are a continuation of Meta’s efforts to streamline its workforce after it laid off 11,000 employees in 2022 and an additional 10,000 employees last year.
Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has recently emphasized the company’s focus on developing artificial intelligence (AI) models and smart glasses, as demonstrated during the September developers’ conference. Despite its pandemic-era financial boom, Meta has faced challenges post-lockdown, with slower revenue growth leading to these workforce reductions.
