Light Field Lab®, the creators of the SolidLightTM holographic display platform, announced today a $50 million Series B round led by global game developer NCSOFT. New investors Corning, Gates Frontier, LG Tech Ventures, NCSOFT, and OTOY are joined by existing shareholders Khosla Ventures, the venture capital arms of Samsung, Verizon, Bosch, Forvia, Liberty Global, and Taiwania Capital. Light Field Lab also debuted Defy experiences, the first of which, Space and Time, allows you to communicate with and interact with SolidLight holograms.

The latest round of funding will accelerate the commercialization of SolidLight systems, which will be used in a variety of enterprise and location-based entertainment applications.

“Light Field Lab is shaping the future of immersive experiences and we are excited to support them in making true holograms a reality,” stated Dr. Songyee Yoon, Chief Strategy Officer of NCSOFT. “The ability to view, deliver, and interact with 3D content without any additional peripheral devices will significantly boost the acceptance of SolidLight, not only in the entertainment industry, but also in the way we collaborate and interact through remote technologies.”

SolidLight, recently named one of TIME’s Best Inventions, is the highest-resolution holographic display platform ever created, allowing real digital objects to form in mid-air without the use of headgear. The hardware consists of self-emissive bezel-less panels that connect to form modular holographic video walls. SolidLight technologies work together to provide a turn-key system solution for a variety of next-generation experiences. Light Field Lab’s proprietary real-time WaveTracingTM software powers Defy.
