Inflexion Games, the studio behind the crafting-survival game Nightingale, has closed its UK division in the latest round of game industry layoffs. The closure has led to the dismissal of several employees, including the entire audio team, according to LinkedIn posts by affected staff members.
Jon Newman, an Audio Director at the studio, shared the news on LinkedIn, stating that the shutdown has impacted not only the UK-based audio team but also others within the company. Rebecca Parnell, a former Principal Audio Designer at Inflexion, confirmed that the UK team had been made redundant.
While the exact number of layoffs remains unclear, LinkedIn profiles suggest that members of Inflexion’s art department, including VFX and Tech Artists, were also affected by the closure. The studio’s decision to close its UK arm follows the mixed reception of Nightingale, which launched in Early Access earlier this year. Despite a large promotional campaign, the game received criticism for missing features like an offline mode, though updates, including future plans to reintroduce Nightingale City as a multiplayer hub, are still underway.
Inflexion Games’ closure comes amid a wave of layoffs across the gaming industry, with 13,000 job cuts in 2024 alone, according to the independent Obsidian tracker. Since 2022, over 30,000 jobs have been lost across the gaming sector, with other companies like NCSoft also announcing restructuring plans this week.
