General Motors has temporarily furloughed over 1,200 workers in the U.S. and Canada amid the ongoing United Auto Workers (UAW) strike, which has now entered its second week.
The latest cuts impact nearly 500 hourly employees in Ohio and almost 700 in Canada, as reported by The Telegraph. The prolonged industrial action has impacted GM’s stock, which has dropped by 4% since the strike began on September 13.
The UAW strike, now in its eighth day, has affected more than 3,700 non-union GM workers so far, marking one of the company’s largest labor disputes since 2007. Approximately 50 union workers from 31 GM facilities across nine states are participating in the strike.
