Citizen Health, a San Francisco–based health tech startup focused on transforming rare disease care, has raised $30 million in Series A funding. The round, led by 8VC with participation from Transformation Capital and Headline, brings the company’s total funding to $44 million since its launch in December 2023.
Founded by Farid Vij (CEO & Co-founder) and Nasha Fitter (Chief Business Officer & Co-founder), Citizen Health is on a mission to empower patients with rare and complex conditions through a patient-centered platform that combines AI, community support, and longitudinal health data. The platform helps users interpret medical records, track symptoms, connect with peers, manage appointments, and discover the next best steps in their care.
“Today’s patients expect intelligence, clarity, and personalization in healthcare—just like in every other part of their lives,” said Farid Vij. “We’re building a personalized AI Advocate for every patient that transforms passive systems into proactive, human-centered experiences.”
“With rare diseases affecting over 400 million people worldwide—and 95% lacking approved treatments—the urgency of Citizen’s mission cannot be overstated,” said Sebastian Caliri, Partner at 8VC, who will join Citizen’s board. Mathias Schilling, Founding Partner at Headline, added that combining AI and consumer design to support these patients is both rare and impactful.
Citizen Health plans to launch the first version of its AI Advocate in select communities in Q3, along with a dedicated product for patient advocacy groups. The company is also focused on expanding its team—particularly in AI engineering, product development, and design—and deepening its collaborations with pharmaceutical firms, policymakers, and patient organizations.
With this investment, Citizen Health aims to usher in a new era of proactive, personalized healthcare—starting with rare disease and building toward an AI Advocate for every patient.
