Growing From Passion to $7M Revenue
Last year we closed with $7M in revenue and $3M in profit — nearly all reinvested to fuel the studio’s growth.
Why I Started RetroStyle Games
I loved games, but I also wanted to contribute to the industry, not just play it. Reading the story of The Witcher creators inspired me to take the leap and build something of my own.
The Humble Beginnings
Our first steps were small: a mobile game called Mars Miner and a bold bet on the Apple App Store boom in 2008. That was the spark that set our journey in motion.
Bootstrapping With Just a Few Thousand Dollars
RetroStyle began on pure passion and personal savings. By staying lean, creating MVPs, and reinvesting every dollar earned, we grew from a side project into a global studio.
Landing the First Clients
Early projects came through forums, dev groups, and word-of-mouth. Even with a clunky first website, our passion stood out — and people noticed.
Lessons From Year One
Our first year was a crash course in client management, deadlines, and production. It was tough, but it built the resilience and quality standards we still rely on today.
What Really Drove Our Growth
- Word of mouth from satisfied clients
- SEO and digital marketing (with Promo and SEO teams “competing” internally)
- Networking online and at events
- Expanding services for indie and AAA studios alike
Meet the RetroStyle Team
From a handful of passionate artists to 100+ specialists today — our strength is in collaboration, diverse skills, and open communication.
The Road Ahead
We’re doubling our team, building our first console game for PlayStation and Xbox with a major publisher, and investing in AI-driven analytics to refine marketing and player experiences.
The Game That Changed Everything
Spirit Run was our turning point — a breakout mobile success that proved our abilities and attracted major partners.
My Advice to Entrepreneurs
- Passion and resilience beat everything else
- Treat failures as stepping stones
- Build a strong, innovative team
- Keep learning — growth ends when curiosity does
A Quote That Guides Me
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” — Winston Churchill
This mindset keeps us moving forward, through both victories and setbacks.
If I Had to Start Over Today
I’d search for a niche where human creativity still matters despite AI’s rise. I’d validate ideas quickly with MVPs and user feedback, while building a strong professional network.
