LinkedIn Layoffs Impact 200 Employees Amid Market Adjustments

LinkedIn has reportedly laid off approximately 200 employees, or around 1% of its workforce, over the past two weeks, as reported by The Information. The layoffs have primarily impacted engineering and customer support teams.

This follows a series of workforce reductions at LinkedIn throughout 2023 and the decision to wind down its China-centric job app due to evolving market conditions.

LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, is not alone in its cost-cutting measures. Microsoft has also laid off over 1,000 employees across various divisions in 2024.

Despite the layoffs, both LinkedIn and Microsoft continue to integrate generative AI tools into their offerings. LinkedIn has rolled out features enabling users to generate content for posts and create AI-assisted comments, aiming to enhance user engagement and attract enterprise clients.

The recent layoffs highlight the challenges even tech giants face in adapting to shifting market conditions while pursuing innovation.
