Fandom Cuts 11% of Workforce, Affecting GameSpot and Other Gaming Outlets

by

Fandom, the prominent wiki network owning sites like GameSpot, Giant Bomb, Metacritic, and GameFAQs, has laid off 11% of its workforce, impacting various departments, including many members of GameSpot’s video team and GameSpot UK. The news, which CEO Perkins Miller announced during an all-hands meeting, reportedly comes as part of a broader company restructuring in response to market shifts and missed revenue targets.

Several affected employees, including GameSpot video producer DeVante Chisolm and senior editor Chris Hayner, expressed their shock and disappointment on social media, sharing fond memories of their work and team. Additional cuts were reported in Fandom’s sales and management divisions, along with staff from Fandom-owned Screen Junkies, known for “Honest Trailers.”

Since Fandom’s acquisition of GameSpot in 2023, employees have endured multiple rounds of layoffs, including a smaller reduction earlier this year. Despite the recent downsizing, a current Fandom employee noted that gaming remains the company’s primary focus, albeit due to limited alternatives.
