Lightship Raises $34 Million in Series B Funding to Accelerate Production of All-Electric Travel Trailer

by

Lightship, the first all-electric RV (recreational vehicle) company in the United States, has successfully secured $34 million in a Series B financing round. Co-led by Obvious Ventures and Prelude Ventures, the funding round included participation from Allegis Capital, THOR Industries, TechNexus Venture Collaborative, Congruent Ventures, HyperGuap, and Alumni Ventures.

The capital raised in this funding round will be instrumental in expediting the production of Lightship’s flagship product, the Lightship L1. The company plans to initiate pilot manufacturing at its new facility in Broomfield, Colorado, with the expectation of creating high-tech engineering and manufacturing jobs as it scales up production.

The Lightship L1 is a groundbreaking, all-electric travel trailer designed for optimal aerodynamics and efficiency. Unlike traditional designs, it features a telescoping vehicle design to minimize frontal area, ensuring maximum aerodynamic efficiency. The RV is equipped with an electric drivetrain, a substantial battery energy storage system, and ample solar power capacity, enabling off-grid travel for extended periods.

Andrew Beebe, Managing Director at Obvious Ventures, expressed excitement about the transformative impact Lightship’s innovation could have on road trips. The L1, introduced earlier this year, has garnered positive reviews and generated a growing waitlist.

Lightship Co-Founder and CEO Toby Kraus conveyed pride in the company’s achievements, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the team. With a vision for the future of recreational travel, Lightship aims to redefine the industry with its innovative approach to electric RVs.
