Peoria-based company, Natural Fiber Welding (NFW), has announced a second round of staff reductions this year, as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts. The recent action, which occurred on Wednesday, affected approximately 10% of the workforce, mirroring a similar move made in April.
An NFW spokesperson confirmed that the latest round of layoffs also impacted around 10% of the company’s employees, which amounts to more than 200 workers in the Peoria area.
In an official statement, NFW explained that the staff reductions were part of a broader effort to restructure core operational units within the company. These changes come in the wake of new leadership joining the organization in the spring of 2023 and underscore the company’s commitment to enhancing efficiency, maintaining quality, and driving growth.
“Today NFW took steps to restructure core operational units of the company, including reductions in staff.” They added, “The reshaping follows new leadership joining the company in the spring of 2023 and reflects a continued focus on efficiency, quality and growth.”
Natural Fiber Welding specializes in the design and manufacture of sustainable plant-based textiles. Notably, the company recently made headlines by announcing a notable partnership with Levi’s. Together, they plan to produce a line of blue jeans crafted entirely from plant-based materials, contributing to the fashion industry’s growing focus on sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
