Mojo Vision, a high-performance micro-LED company, announced a new Series A investment round of $22.4 million today to accelerate the development and commercialization of its micro-LED display technology for consumer, enterprise, and government applications. Existing investors NEA and Khosla Ventures lead the round, with participation from Dolby Family Ventures, Liberty Global Ventures, Fusion Fund, Drew Perkins, Open Field Capital, and Edge.
Using cutting-edge semiconductor technology, Mojo Vision is developing the next generation of micro-LEDs that will disrupt the global display industry, with revenues expected to exceed $160 billion in 2026, according to leading display market research firm DSCC.
The company has identified market opportunities in augmented and virtual reality, automotive, light field display, large format displays, and other applications that require high performance micro-LED displays to provide true value and drive broader adoption.
Mojo Vision created the smallest, densest dynamic display ever created in 2019, as a critical component of its smart contact lens, Mojo Lens.
Mojo Vision’s original monochrome display technology achieved a world record pixel pitch of over 14,000ppi, making it the smallest and densest display for dynamic content.
The company recently announced that it was slowing development of its smart contact lens in order to focus resources on the development and commercialization of its world-class Micro-LED display technology.In addition to the funding announcement, Mojo Vision announced that Dr. Nikhil Balram, who previously led Mojo’s display group, has been appointed CEO.
Dr. Balram has over 30 years of semiconductor and display technology experience, most recently as CEO of AR systems company EyeWay Vision Inc. and prior to that, as head of Google’s Display Group, leading development of display systems for all Google consumer hardware products, including AR/VR.
His previous roles include CEO of Ricoh Innovations Corporation, Vice President and General Manager of Marvell Semiconductor, and Chief Technology Officer of National Semiconductor’s Display Group.
